I've been a teacher for over 20 years educating preschoolers to adults.  The best part of my work with students is helping them find their strengths and talents and seeing the progress they make toward their learning goals.

As a life-long learner myself, I am passionate about teaching and I realize the importance of creating engaging and meaningful learning opportunities for my students. I understand how language skills are acquired, how reading skills are developed, and that there are individual differences in how students learn.  As a certified Wired For Reading® Specialist, I utilize the Wired For Reading® Curriculum to address the needs of students with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. Wired for Reading® is a multi-sensory approach to teaching reading and spelling. A multi-sensory approach engages more than one sense at a time to help solidify learning. Typical reading instruction uses visual and auditory methods to engage learners, but I also use music, drama, movement and tactile approaches.  This gives students numerous ways to connect and remember material.

Writing can also be a challenge for some students, whether it be forming letters, planning, organizing, or developing ideas.  I've learned through my training and experiences that there are numerous tools and strategies that can be used to make the writing process easier. I've successfully taught learners to use graphic organizers,  speech to text programs, Inspiration, quick sketches, and many more strategies. For students with fine motor and handwriting difficulties, I use Handwriting Without Tears. This curriculum makes learning to write joyful and easy to master.

I have many years of experience working closely with learning support specialists and school psychologists to create, implement, and evaluate Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) and 504 plans, so I can help you navigate the school system to get the services your child deserves.
